Wholistic Health for Women and the Lesbian Health Clinic were founded in 1985 as a nonprofit, tax-exempt feminist health project. Our goal - to empower women through vaginal self-examination, safe and effective birth control and conception options, and preventive choice oriented health care.

Through the years we have expanded our services to include STD, HIV and AIDS related testing, acupuncture, herbs, nutrition and dietary supplements. Our expanded services have brought a diverse population of women and men, including the LGBIT communities, to our facility, leading us to take on the umbrella name Progressive Health Services.

We believe in self determination in health and wellness; that every person has a right to control over their body and sexuality, and that women have a paramount right to control over their reproduction.

We believe that everyone has a right to a safe, unpolluted, unadulterated and stress-free environment, including the land, air, food and water.

Additionally, we believe that everyone has a right to complete information about and access to all health and healing options so that they can make truly informed decisions about their bodies, health care and lives.

We accept payment in full at the time services are rendered. We can provide you with a super bill insurance receipt that you can submit to your insurance company to be reimbursed. While we do not bill health insurance directly, our fees are covered by most insurance. Having you submit your own insurance billing helps keep our costs down, enabling us to provide reasonably priced services. All fees are subject to change without notice. All lab tests, herbs, nutritional supplements, literature and supplies are an additional fee.

The Toni Atkins Lesbian Health Fund was established in San Diego to enable low income Lesbian, Bisexual women and Transgender people to get Pap smears and breast exams at a reduced fee or no charge. This fund enables the Lesbian Health Clinic to provide these vital health services in a sensitive, supportive and informative setting with an emphasis on self-knowledge and self-help. These services are available by appointment.

Suzann is a nationally certified and licensed acupuncturist, a nationally certified OB/GYN nurse practitioner and nutritionist. She brings a wealth of experience as a health care provider, wholistic healer, educator and feminist health activist.

Her roots stem from the early Self-Help Clinics in 1971, where women learned how to do vaginal self-examination with plastic vaginal speculums. She work as a lay health worker and administrator with the Los Angeles Feminist Women's Health Center from 1973 to1984. In 1985, she co-founded Wholistic Health for Women and the Lesbian Health Clinic of West Hollywood, which later took on the umbrella name Progressive Health Services.

Her specialty areas include gynecology, urology, STDs, HIV/AIDS, LGBIT health, sexual and reproductive health, PMS, menopause, endocrinology, fertility, immune and digestive system support, pain management, nutrition, acupuncture and herbs.

She is co-author and illustrator of several books on women's health, including A New View of a Woman's Body.

Marcia was a co-founder of Womancare in San Diego in 1973. She remained active with the Feminist Women's Health Centers in Los Angeles and Atlanta as a lay health worker and administrator until 1981.

She co-authored A New View of a Woman's Body and Menopause Myths and Facts: What Every Woman Should Know About Hormone Replacement Therapy.

She has been teaching The Healing Tao, a Chinese system of meditation and physical self-healing practices since 1983, and has been honored as a senior instructor of The Healing Tao by Master Chia.
