Hepatitis Testing Fact Sheet

Hepatitis is a sexually transmitted viral infection passed through unsafe sex
Hepatitis A, B and C can all be sexually transmitted

You can have Hepatitis without symptoms!

Symptoms of Hepatitis can include:

• Flu like symptoms such as weakness, fatigue, and aching
• Pale colored bowel movements
• Dark colored urine
• Nausea and vomiting
• Dull yellowish skin and eyes

Who Should Test for Hepatitis?

If you have any of these symptoms after sexual contact with a partner you should test for Hepatitis!
If you've had unsafe sex with partners who's sexual past is unknown you should test for Hepatitis!
If you have any doubts after sex, even if you have NO symptoms, you should test for Hepatitis!

Progressive Health Services has seen patients test positive for Hepatitis without having any symptoms, even for many years after becoming infected!

Testing for Hepatitis A, B, & C can be done with a simple blood test.

Testing for Hepatitis is most accurate if it has been 1 month or longer after sexual contact. However, hepatitis has been detected as early as 2 weeks after becoming infected, in some cases.

Hepatitis Treatment- Hepatitis B & C can be treated and controlled with the various treatments.
Chronic Hepatitis B & C infection can increase the risk for liver disease but treatment can help!
Hepatitis A normally goes away on it's own. A variety of health regimes can help with recovery.
