HIV Test Results
- Rapid HIV 1 & 2 testing with 15 minutes results simply requires a drop of blood from a finger stick. The Rapid HIV test looks for antibodies that the immune system forms to fight HIV. In the majority of cases HIV antibodies can easily be found 3-4 weeks after becoming infected. HIV antibodies have even been found in as few as 2 weeks after becoming infected, in some cases. Experts recommend that you repeat the HIV antibody test 3 months later and even 6 months later just to double check.
- The HIV DNA Early Test, also called the HIV DNA by PCR test, requires a tube of blood that is sent to a lab. The HIV DNA test has identified evidence of DNA from HIV in the blood in as few as 3-7 days after becoming infected, which is the soonest that you can detect HIV in a test. Results are available normally in 2-4 working days (most cases). HIV DNA testing is considered most accurate if it has been 1-3 weeks or longer after becoming infected.

HIV Test Results
- If you test negative, and it has been a very short time since you have had any concern of becoming infected with HIV, we encourage you to come back and repeat testing a month later to double check. If you test too soon after a risk of becoming infected with HIV you could get negative test result even though you are infected. Additionally, we strongly recommend testing for other STDs as well. You can become infected with other STDs in the same way, and at the same time, that you become infected with HIV, and it is possible to have other STDs without symptoms. Using condoms and other Safer Sex practices can dramatically reduce your risk of becoming infected with HIV.
