Well-Woman health care
The medical specialty dealing with women's health care is called gynecology or GYN. The medical specialty dealing with pregnancy and birth is called obstetrics or OB. Obstetrics and gynecology, or OB/GYN, primarily addresses the health needs well women. The vast majority of women go to an OB/GYN for routine physical examinations, Pap smears, family planning, birth control, pregnancy, prenatal care, childbirth, menstrual cycle issues and menopause changes. Growing up, having periods, becoming sexually active, taking measures to plan or prevent pregnancy, becoming pregnant, having babies and going through menopause are all normal natural aspects of being female. None of these functions, activities or life circumstances, in and of themselves, have anything to do with disease. This recognition inspired the creation of the expression "well women health care."

Self-Examination
We teach women breast self-examination and vaginal self-examination as part of routine gynecology health care.
- Breast self-examination can enable women to find their own breast lumps before a health practitioner may detect them during a yearly breast examination in a gynecologist's office. Learn more.
- Vaginal self-examination enables women to look at their own cervix, the donut shaped entrance to the uterus in the back of the vagina, with a plastic vaginal speculum. By doing vaginal self-examination women can actually see exactly what the gynecologist sees. We give women plastic speculums to keep and take home! Vaginal self-examination helps women become more knowledgeable about their bodies and their cycles enabling them to detect signs of ovulation, common vaginal conditions such as yeast, and even early signs of pregnancy. "I received the best gynecologic care here. It was literally the best experience I've ever had. I wish all medical professionals could maintain that level of respect and warmth. Suzann was so caring, and welcoming and it was such a nice calm environment. All around holistic, thoughtful, inclusive and gentle care. Amazing! If you are looking for health professionals who show genuine interest and care, you've found the right place." ~ Popples H.
